Solar Incentives & Net Metering in British Columbia (2026)
BC Hydro Rebates: BC Hydro offers stackable rebates of $1,000 per kW of solar (up to $5,000) plus $500 per kWh of battery storage (up to $5,000) — as much as $10,000 combined, with an income-tested supplement adding up to $2,000 for qualifying households. From June 1, 2026, installations must be completed by a Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN) member to qualify.
Net Metering & the New Self-Generation Rate: Effective July 1, 2026, a new BCUC-approved Self-Generation Service Rate replaces net metering for new customers and rebate recipients, compensating surplus electricity at a flat 10¢/kWh. Homeowners who received a rebate before March 24, 2026 have a one-time option to repay it and remain on the older net-metering rate.
Federal: The Canada Greener Homes Grant and Loan have closed. The newer Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program offers direct-install support for lower-income households, rolling out province by province. The federal 30% Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit applies to businesses, not individual homeowners.
