Mobile solar installation

Built for vehicles and boats.

We design and build complete solar systems for vehicles and boats. Every build starts with a load calculation, uses components sized to work together, and is tested under load before it leaves the shop. We do not install solar on houses.

01

Travel trailers and fifth wheels

Roof space is shared with vents, fans and an air conditioner. We lay the array out around them.

02

Camper vans

Limited roof area and limited weight. Thin panels, short cable runs and alternator charging while you drive.

03

Skoolies and bus conversions

The largest roof area of any conversion. Large arrays, large battery banks and an inverter sized to run power tools.

04

Tiny homes on wheels

House loads on a trailer chassis. Sized to what you run, with a shore power connection where the site provides one.

05

Marine

Built for salt, vibration and constant motion. Tinned wire, sealed terminations and mounting rated for the environment.

06

Overland and truck campers

Short trips and hard use. Sized to keep a fridge cold for three days on alternator charging alone.

What goes in

Six components, specified together.

Panels, charge controller, battery bank, DC-DC charger, inverter and monitoring are specified together and sized to the loads you run.

Harvest

Panels

Rigid, semi-flexible or walkable, selected for your roof and mounted with sealed penetrations.

Convert

MPPT charge controller

MPPT, sized to the array voltage and the battery bank. Handles the high open-circuit voltage of cold panels.

Store

Lithium bank

LiFePO4 with low temperature charge protection, which prevents charging below freezing.

Drive

DC-DC alternator charging

Charges the house bank from the alternator while you drive, including on vehicles with smart alternators.

Invert

Inverter charger

Provides AC power from the battery bank and switches to charging when you connect shore power or a generator.

Watch

Monitoring and protection

A shunt for accurate state of charge, fusing at every source, and an accessible main disconnect.

How a build runs

Load calculation first.

Every build starts with a load calculation. The result determines the battery bank and the array size.

01

Consult

What the vehicle is, how you use it, where you park it, and what equipment is already fitted.

02

Load calculation

Every load, its run hours and its season. Fridge, furnace fan, water pump, laptops, Starlink and tools. This determines the battery bank and the array.

03

Design and parts list

Wiring diagram, fuse sizing, cable gauge and an itemised quote at catalogue prices.

04

Build

Mounting, sealed penetrations, cable runs, bank and panel.

05

Commissioning

Every circuit tested under load. Controller and inverter configured to the battery chemistry, and the shunt calibrated.

06

Handover

You receive the wiring diagram, the fuse map and the configured settings, so any shop can service the system later.

Repair and service

The work most shops
will not take.

We service and repair mobile solar systems regardless of who installed them. We did not have to build it to fix it.

Diagnostics

Your solar stopped charging

The array reads zero, or the battery never reaches full. Common causes are a blown inline fuse, a corroded roof connector, a charge controller set to the wrong battery type, or a battery bank that has been discharged too long.

We test the array, controller, bank and wiring as a system, then quote the repair in writing.

Replacement

Inverter or controller failed

Charge controllers and inverters are the most common failures, usually from undersizing or poor ventilation. In-warranty units are handled as a claim. Out of warranty, we size a replacement to the array and bank you already own.

Damage

Hail or road damage to panels

Central Alberta sees regular hail and most rigs are stored outside. Cracked cells are not always visible, and one damaged panel reduces the output of the whole string.

We inspect the array, document the damage for your insurer, and replace the modules. Matching a discontinued panel is the difficult part, and it is the part we are best equipped to handle.

Roof work

Your roof needs resealing or replacing

RV roofs need resealing long before the panels wear out, and roof shops will not work around a mounted array or its wiring.

We remove the system, you have the roof resealed or replaced, and we remount it with fresh sealant and new penetrations. Scheduled around your roof shop.

Upgrades

Most systems need one component.

Most systems that come through the bay do not need a rebuild. They need one component the original build left out.

Most asked

Lead acid to lithium

Four times the usable capacity in the same space, at half the weight. The charger, charge controller and alternator charging all have to be configured for lithium.

Charging

DC-DC from the alternator

Factory wiring will not fully charge a lithium house bank from the alternator. A DC-DC charger will, and it limits the current drawn from the alternator.

Capacity

More panel

Adding to an existing array requires the controller and wiring to carry the additional current. We verify this before quoting.

Comfort

Inverter upgrade

Replacing a modified sine inverter with an inverter charger, so shore power and battery supply switch over automatically.

Parts in stock

Your replacement part is
already in Red Deer.

A repair shop has to order the part. We are the distributor, with over 1,200 products in stock, so a replacement controller is on the shelf rather than on order.

Stock

Controllers and inverters on hand

MPPT controllers, inverter chargers and DC-DC units from the brands we carry, held in stock.

Match

Panels that fit the array

Replacing one module requires matching voltage and current to the rest of the array. We carry the range to do it.

Where we work

Bring it to the bay.

Builds are done at Bay 11 in Red Deer, on Highway 2 between Calgary and Edmonton.

In the shop

Full builds and rebuilds

An indoor bay, so builds are not weather dependent and the vehicle is not left open outside.

Local

Service around central Alberta

Diagnostics and smaller service work within reach of Red Deer, including Lacombe, Sylvan Lake, Blackfalds, Innisfail, Ponoka, Olds, Stettler and Rocky Mountain House.

Anywhere

Parts and design shipped

If you are building the system yourself, we will do the load calculation and the parts list and ship the components anywhere in Canada.

Questions

Common questions.

No. We work on mobile and marine systems only: RVs, travel trailers, fifth wheels, camper vans, skoolies, tiny homes on wheels, boats and overland vehicles. We do draw single line diagrams for residential, commercial and utility-scale solar as a separate service, and we sell the equipment for those systems. We do not install them.

Yes, and it is most of our service work. Bring whatever paperwork and wiring information you have. It shortens the job and reduces the cost.

It depends on your loads rather than the size of the roof. A weekend trailer running lights, a water pump and a furnace fan needs a different system from a van lived in year round. Every build starts with a load calculation for this reason.

Usually not for long. A rooftop RV air conditioner is one of the largest loads on the vehicle. It can be run from a large lithium bank with a soft start and a suitably sized inverter, and we will size it, but that is a substantial system rather than a panel upgrade.

Yes, with one condition. LiFePO4 must not be charged below freezing, so the bank needs internal heating or a controller that blocks charging when it is cold. We only fit banks with low temperature charge protection.

Yes, with a DC-DC charger. Factory wiring will not fully charge a lithium house bank from the alternator, and vehicles with smart alternators charge very little without one. A DC-DC charger also limits the current drawn from the alternator.

A low voltage DC house system in a recreational vehicle is not wired or permitted the way a rooftop install on a building is. AC and shore power in RVs falls under the CSA Z240 RV Series standard. Tiny homes are the exception worth checking. On wheels and registered as an RV, a tiny home is treated as one. On a foundation it is a building, which means building code and a permitted electrical install.

No. Federal and municipal programs apply to homes. The Canada Greener Homes Grant closed to new applications in February 2024 and the interest-free loan closed in October 2025. There is currently no rebate for mobile solar in Canada.

We would rather supply them, since we stock over 1,200 products at the prices listed on our website. If you already own the equipment, talk to us first and we will confirm whether the components work together before any work starts.
