The PV-KST4/6X-UR is a genuine Stäubli MC4 male cable coupler — the original MC4 connector, assembled in the field onto photovoltaic wire with a crimp contact. It is used to terminate string wiring, build extension leads, and repair or replace damaged module connectors on residential and commercial PV arrays.

How this model differs

All four MC4 cable couplers in this range share the same electrical ratings. The only differences are the gender of the connector and the size of the cable gland. This one has a 5.5–7.4 mm cable gland — the standard gland size — it suits most 6 mm² / 10 AWG PV wire, including common EN 50618 (H1Z2Z2-K) and PV1-F cable. Measure the outer diameter of your cable jacket before ordering: a jacket outside the gland range will not seal to IP68, which is the most common cause of field failures.

By industry convention the male coupler is fitted to the negative conductor and mates with the female coupler on the positive side. Connector gender does not guarantee polarity — always confirm with a meter before connecting.

Installation

Requires a Stäubli MC4 crimping tool sized for the contact and an MC4 open-end spanner (PV-MS) to tighten the gland and to unlock mated pairs. Follow Stäubli assembly instructions MA231. Under NEC 2014 the locking system requires a tool to open, so keep an unlocking spanner with the array documentation.

Why genuine Stäubli

MULTILAM contact technology holds contact resistance at or below 0.25 mΩ for the life of the array, which prevents the hot spots and power loss that come from high-resistance joints. Stäubli does not certify any third-party connector as compatible with the MC4 family, and mixing brands within a string can void module and connector warranties as well as your electrical inspection.
